There are different methods to cooking on campfires and each method requires different sorts of . If you need to go light such as backpacking or you don't have much room you need to plan meals that can be cooked on light weight equipment. Cooking a roast on the campfire will always mean that you need a Dutch oven or cast iron pot and these can be heavy and bulky. With just these two items you can do almost anything you can do at home.
Carrying a little gas stove with you means fire bans are not as limiting in your food choices. By turning the flame on the stove right down to its lowest setting you can easily cook a good meal in your Dutch oven. Pre-heat the oven with the flame set to high before you start your roast. Roasts take about the same amount of time to cook as they do in your oven at home so in a couple of hours you will have lovely cooked meal. Cook the roast in a disposable aluminum tray and you don't even have to wash the pot. For recipes that require some frying you can turn the lip upside down and use that as the frying surface while the rest of the meal is still roasting.

If you use light weight equipment such as aluminum or titanium be aware that the cooking surface can get hot fast. Keep the heat to a minimum so you don't burn your food onto the surface and your washing up will be an easier job.
